Style & character

8 / 10

This is very much a family-oriented resort. It's contemporary colonial in style, with a strong use of Astro Turf around the swimming pools and on balconies to reflect the greens of the golf course alongside. The largest pool has a sprawling rockery garden adorned by models of African elephants in deference to the proximity of the real thing, and there are lots of pleasing design features like wrought iron gazebos, a funky chill-out bar, and the occasional model of a crocodile hidden among the tropical plantings.

The staff at the Oasis Gran Resort are what make the hotel so popular and bring guests back year after year. Always smiling, ever helpful, and constantly interacting with the youngest guests, they imbue an infectious sense of fun around the place. Three heated swimming pools, one of them specifically for children, form the central focus of the resort.

A small but well-equipped gym looks out over the golf course and there's a football/basketball court and large games room equipped with table tennis, billiards, pool and games machines. A wellness centre provides massage and beauty treatments and there's an on-site supermarket.

Food & drink

The main restaurant provides a selection of good quality, family-favourite dishes with nightly themed dinners and, when we were there, lots of familiar options for Brits such as pork sausages at breakfast and steak pie in the evening. Stand out dishes were the salads, which included fresh and smoked fish and meats, and the desserts. Apartments combined with the on-site supermarket have everything needed for self-catering, while all-inclusive packages give access to all-day snacks, drinks (non-premium brand only), meals and ice cream.
